DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF COMPRESSOR AND TURBINE MODULES FOR DEMONSTRATOR ENGINE

SCOPE

We were required to design and modify the compressor and turbine components of a new demonstrator engine for a global aero engine manufacturer’s next generation civil large engines to meet elevated temperature requirements.

Over 5 years, we supported our client on these challenging, time critical engineering programmes across a range of different core engine components. Additional support was provided to deal with manufacturing arisings and to manage integrated project teams.

SERVICES

Assystem Technologies have significant experience in compressor, turbine and structural casing design. We conducted a wide range of fixed price work packages for our client, covering design, analysis, product definition and project management, including:

  • Fan blade retention system
  • IP & HP compressor aerofoils – blades, fixed stators, variable stators,shrouds
  • Core engine casings
  • Turbine seal segments
  • Manufacturing Arisings – non-conformance assessment
  • Comprehensive set of Assembly/Strip Tooling successfully designed and analysed

Our flexible project team and rapid resourcing allowed us to deliver a fully managed solution which could be co-located on customer sites when required. Our model enabled us to adapt to changing customer needs and to deliver an integrated, responsive service at all times. The experienced team were also able to focus on delivering requirements to a fixed, low-cost price.

Overall, our services enabled our client to proceed with economic certainty with a near shore, low cost solution with minimal management burden.
